Paul Burch: Underground Nashville and Imagining Jimmie Rodgers
Paul Burch, Meridian Rising

My latest post on ZONA MOTEL is a conversation with Nashville-based songwriter Paul Burch about the town where he lives and works, as well as his 2016 record, MERIDIAN RISING, and a novel of the same name that he published with the University of Georgia press.

Both versions of MERIDIAN RISING find Burch engaging in a dazzling recreation of the life and times of Jimmie Rodgers – one of the greatest American songwriters.

Burch talks about the research involved in making the record and writing the novel, as well as the cross-traffic between writing songs and writing fiction.

CONVERSATION: Paul Burch talks with Richard Byrne about underground Nashville and going back to the honkytonks with Jimmie Rodgers
Burch talks with Byrne on the occasion of his novel, Meridian Rising (U of Georgia Press, 2025), about its subject, Jimmie Rodgers, and also Nashville, research, and making records.
